BOSTON – The Federation of the Hellenic American Societies of New England had its annual dinner dance and cutting of the vasilopita on Saturday night, January 25 at the Community Center of Taxiarchae Greek Orthodox parish in Watertown Massachusetts.
Approximately 120 guests attended, including members of the societies, Consul General of Greece in Boston Stratos Ethymiou, Rhode Island State Senator Leonidas Raptakis, and the Greek-American evzones unit of the Federation.
Fr. Athanasios Nenes, presiding priest of the Taxiarchae parish, offered the prayer and the Consul General Stratos Efthymiou cut the vasilopita.
Kostas Travagiakis, a vice president of the Federation was in charge of the event. In his welcoming remarks he expressed warm wishes for a healthy and prosperous New Year to all.
Bill Kafkas, the Federation’s president in his greetings thanked all for their presence and support and he announced that His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America will be the Grand Marshal of Boston’s parade on Sunday, April 26.
There was a vasilopita in every table made by Olga Photos, the Federation’s general secretary. The food was cooked by George Panagiotopoulos 2nd vice president of the Federation. All the proceeds will go towards the financial support of the parade.
