Chelmsford & Lowell Chelmsford, George S. Zaharoolis, 84, a resident of Lowell and Chelmsford passed away on April 10, 2024.George was born in Boston and was the son of the late Soterios and the late Mary [Theodoros] Zaharoolis. George attended Chelmsford Public Schools, Class of ’57. He was married to the late Joann (Paparisis) Zaharoolis for 52 years.George worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for over 45 years. He started at the State Auditor’s Office and later transitioned to Lowell Tech as Director of Accounts Payable, which became University of Lowell and subsequently UMass Lowell. George also served 6 years in the US Army National Guard and was Honorably Discharged.George was involved in many national and local organizations. He served on the Holy Trinity Church Parish Council and was council president for several years. George was a member of the AHEPA Chapter 102 of Lowell, the Pan Laconian Society, the East End Club, and the Greek American Veterans. George was involved in other organizations that preserved the history of Greece and the history of Greek Americans settling in the area. He was involved with local government and served 35 years on the Lowell Planning Board, where he served as chairman for several years. He served on the Lowell Historic Board and as the Lowell representative to Northern Middlesex Council of Governments. George volunteered his time coaching baseball at Callery Park and basketball for summer and church leagues. Most of the players remember the Sunday afternoon practices held at the Bartlett School. George was also a coach at KC Jones Basketball School. George loved to fish and was a Life Member of the Lowell Sportsman Club. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing and coaching soccer.George is survived by three sons S. George and his Wife Gail [Constantino], Anthony and his spouse Brian Holt, Michael, and his wife Gabrielle [Biseti] and three grandsons Christopher, Nicholas, and Aristotle Zaharoolis. He is also survived by the Theodoros, Protopapas, Kozombolis, Garas and Mourtzinos families. George was predeceased by his wife Joann and his son Stephen Zaharoolis.
Visiting Hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-7pm at the BLAKE
CHELMSORD FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St. CHELMSFORD. His Funeral Service and
burial will be held PRIVATELY. In lieu of flowers, donations in George’s memory
may be made to Holy Trinity Church, 62 Lewis St., Lowell, MA 01854. Funeral
